Players from the 2017 Owatonna state championship football team gathered together once again at the OHS cafeteria Monday night with their coaches and families to receive their rings. Coach Jeff Williams said the ring ceremony from the 2013 title team remains one of his favorite memories from that season.

Owatonna High School senior Zach Mensink closed his prep football career in fantastic fashion by playing the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Florida Saturday. Mensink, a captain for the state champ Huskies, announced plans to play football for the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse in mid-December.

2013 Owatonna High School grad Carter McCauley is now a Winona State University graduate as well. He finished his undergrad degree in Cellular Molecular Biology this month and earned another Academic All-America award, his third. He holds numerous kicking records for the Warriors and in the Northern Sun Conference.

The Owatonna High School football team had many aspects of their state championship season to recognize during Sunday's banquet. Many individual and team records were set, many awards were earned, but most of all coach Jeff Williams said it was difficult to say goodbye to a special group of players.

The Owatonna High School auditorium felt like a dance party as the pep band played and Huskies' fans swayed to the music while awaiting the arrival of the newly crowned state champion football team. The players sprinted up the aisles to the strains of the school song while the packed auditorium gave them a wild, standing ovation.

Owatonna won its second Prep Bowl title with a dominating 63-26 victory over defending champ Elk River Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium. Junior running back Jason Williamson tied a Prep Bowl record with six touchdowns and senior Tucker Alstead returned a fumble 29 yards for a score.
