Owatonna High School junior Jason Williamson has made a verbal commitment to play football for the University of Minnesota in fall 2019, reports Gopher Illustrated. Williamson's family confirms the news with a post on twitter.

Williamson, who just was named First Team All-State by the Associated Press, won the Huskies' Most Valuable Player award at their recent banquet after a record-setting season. He rushed for 2,323 yards and 38 touchdowns, had 31 receptions for 454 yards and four touchdowns and returned two kickoffs for scores. Williamson also had six interceptions and seven pass breakups. He was sixth in total defensive points for the Class 5A state champs. He currently holds at least a dozen OHS records.

Gopher Illustrated reports, "Jason picked up an offer from Minnesota last weekend during an unofficial visit and opted to jump in the boat less than a week later. Iowa, NDSU and SDSU are all programs that were showing interest and Jason had visited this past fall."

The Gopher Hole online forum reports that Williamson is, "one of the more dynamic weapons in the state...He was named to the Minnesota Vikings All-State team last weekend and was Gatorade player of the year in Minnesota. Williamson displays an explosive first step and an underrated gear in the second level."

The Gopher football program is celebrating its commitments for the 2018 season. The recruiting class is ranked 22nd in the nation according to 247Sports, reports the University of Minnesota website.

Owatonna High School graduate Andrew Stelter just wrapped up his four-year Gopher career as the team's Butch Nash Award winner.
