He is from Arizona, has three No. 1s and has helped others get moving: Michael Peterson.

Michael Peterson, according to cmt.com, is from Tucson, Arizona, and grew up in the state of Washington. He listened to a wide range of music like Cole Porter, Roger Miller and Willie Nelson. Peterson went to Pacific Lutheran University on a football scholarship.

Michael met with a teammate after college with several songs and eventually began traveling back and forth to Nashville. In 1995, now a professional songwriter, he was encouraged by fellow songwriters to record. His self-titled album was released in 1997 with his first No. 1 "Drink, Swear, Steal and Lie." His sophomore album, Being Human, was released two years later.

According to his website, Michael has had songs recorded in all genres, country, rock and gospel. Peterson contributed to as an author to Chicken Soup for the Soul along with a variety of other books. Most recently, he contributed to a children's book with Guy Gilchrist titled Little Is Good.

He has won numerous awards, including:

  • American Legion's National Award; with former recipient's that include Tom Brokaw and Mister (Fred) Rogers.
  • Bob Hope Spirit of Hope Medal with his many USO tours.

Peterson has also assembled Tag You're It and What's Your Story to inspire high school students. In 2014, Peterson became co-founder of We Are Veterans. He will be going on tour in 60 cities from 2016 to 2018 to raise money and awareness for our veterans.
