The 12th annual Andrew Lawrence Memorial Scholarship Fund Chili Cookoff is Saturday, January 30. This year's event will be at the Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers on the north end of Owatonna in the front building. There will be a shuttle bus service from the parking lot to the building. Hours will be 4-8PM.

There are more than 30 participants registered to show off their best chili recipes along with 10 area resturaunts competing for the "Owatonna's Best" award. Other categories include white and red chili winners in the Peoples Choice category along with a competition between past champions. There will also be the "Flame" award for the hottest chili.

Advance tickets for $8 are available at Kottke Jewelers, Owatonna Shoe, Huntingtons and the Knights of Columbus Hall. Tickets at the door will be $10. Hot dogs, beverages and other food options will be available along with the chili on Saturday.

Andrew Lawrence was a young student who lost his life in a bike vehicle accident in 2003. To date, more than $40,000 in scholarships have been awarded. Another five scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded this year.

Jim Gleason and Brian Carlson of the Chili Cookoff were guests on AM 1390's Talk of the Town.
