The field of six bands for the annual Steele County Free Fair Battle of the Bands event is set. They compete Wednesday, Aug. 19, in front of the grandstand at 5:30PM.

Fair officials have announced the six competing bands, which represent several southern Minnesota communities.

  • D-KO, Rochester
  • Riptide, Albert Lea
  • Med City Jazzers, Spring Valley
  • 9th Planet Out, Rochester
  • Forward Brass Band, Owatonna
  • Discord Curse, Owatonna

The battle is scheduled for 5:30PM at the Steele County fairgrounds grandstand. The winning band receives a $500 cash prize and an opportunity at future bookings. The southern Minnesota-based country music group Lost Highway will headline an 8PM concert after the Battle of the Bands.

The grandstand lineup for the week includes bull riding on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7:30PM; a Hairball concert Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7:30PM; an NTPA truck and tractor pull on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7:30PM; an antique tractor pull Saturday, Aug. 22, at 8:30AM and the Enduro auto race at 6PM that evening; and the demo derby on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 4PM.
