Two Waseca County residents lost their lives Friday in separate incidents. Friday morning 66 year old Sharon Weckwerth of Waseca was killed in a car semi collision. Weckwerth was eastbound on old 14 when she collided with a westbound semi operated by 61 year old Randall Mahlman near the 95th street intersection. The accident resulted in the road being closed for several hours. The accident occurred just before 11am.

Later in the day a 60 year old Janesville man with family ties to Blooming Prairie lost his life while trying to save his grandchildren from drowning. Authorities report the children were on a tube being pulled by a paddleboat when the tube overturned. Douglas Yentsch entered the water in an attempt to save the children. The children were not injured but Yentsch did not surface. His body was later found in 12 feet of water. The accident Friday afternoon occurred on Nichols Lake which is northwest of Duluth.
