It came later in the season then they would have liked, but the first win of the season for the Triton football is one that will be remembered for a long time. The Cobras edged Lewiston-Altura 7-0 Friday in Dodge Center as Drew Kelly defended a pass at the goal line to preserve the lead.

Kelly also accounted for the only touchdown of the game, hauling in a pass from Austin Melder late in the second quarter. In addition to playing several of the best Class AA teams in the state, the Cobras had to weather disappointment in two games where they grabbed early double-digit leads, only to drop the final decisions.

The victory is the first for head coach Mike Ellingson as head coach after many years as the assistant to hall of fame member Don Henderson.

Triton goes to Zumbrota-Mazeppa Wednesday, October 17 for the final game of the regular season. The contest will be carried on KDHL AM 920 and the KDHL app.

Owatonna rallied from an 11-10 halftime deficit to beat Northfield Friday 29-11 to secure the top seed in the section and wrap up a share of the Red Division title in the Big Southeast District. The Huskies host New Prague this week on KRFO AM1390 and the KRFO app.

Blooming Prairie prevailed after a fourth-quarter scoring flurry at Mayer Lutheran 48-34. BP hosts Rushford-Peterson Wednesday at 7 pm on Kat Kountry and the Kat Kountry app.

NRHEG won a key section game 28-12 over LeSueur-Henderson. The Panthers go to Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial this week. Medford outscored Minnesota Valley Lutheran Friday 35-26 and plays at unbeaten United South Central Wednesday.
