Let's face it, we are not like Farm Director Jerry Groskreutz, who can go to the State Fair and find a friend and score a free lunch. Many of us are like Jerry though and don't want to spend a lot of money on food. There are some ways to get some good food on the cheap at the fair.

Here are some suggestions, according to KARE 11.

1. A $5 breakfast burrito and free coffee at Tejas Express. It's a great way to get the most important meal of the day for not a lot of money. It's scrambled eggs, peppers, onions and cheese. If you don't like burritos, they offer free coffee with their other breakfast items as well.

2. For those with a sweet tooth, Ultimate Confections in the grandstand southeast corner has many delicious chocolate treats for just a couple of dollars.

3. All you can drink milk stand just $2. Jerry will love you for supporting the dairy farmers and, let's face it, I love a cold glass of milk. Get some Sweet Martha's cookies to go with it and it's heaven for not much money. It's on the northeast corner of Judson and Clough.

4. In the dairy building you will find $3 cones and $1 yogurt at Dairy Goodness. And they have deals of the day where you can save even more money.

5. Midway Men's Club has good burgers for $2.25, get a beer for $3.50, hot dogs for $2.50 and donuts for 50 cents. This is a nonprofit group that donates to youth activities in St. Paul. Find it on the east side of Underwood Street, between Wright and Dan Patch.

6. Free samples in the Creative Activities Building.

7. Cream Puffs has $4 cream puffs and $1.50 coffee. They have been there for 30 years and the lines are usually lengthy. And there are many delicious flavors.

To make you hungry, some state fair foods not necessarily available for $5 or less.
