The Northfield girls' basketball team graduated several players off their state runner-up team from last winter, but also return a few players who contributed to that run. Owatonna graduated heavily off last season's team including their all-time leading scorer Sydney Schultz and have very few players back with varsity experience.

The Raiders took advantage of that Tuesday, leaping to a 16-0 lead on their way to a 75-39 victory at the OHS gym in the Huskies home opener. Owatonna (0-2) went unbeaten at home last season (12-0) while finishing second in the Big Nine standings behind Northfield.

Northfield sophomore Megan Fabeck had a strong start, scoring 15 of her 23 points in the first half to pace four players in double figures. The Raiders pushed the lead out to 30-6. Owatonna went on a 7-0 run to make the score 30-13, but that's the closest Owatonna would get the rest of the way. Northfield led 47-21 at halftime.

Lexi Mendenhall led the Huskies with 13 points while coming off the bench. She went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and was named the KRFO/TPS Insurance Player of the Game. Sarah Kingland scored 10. The Huskies go to Rochester Century Friday night with coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM and on the Kat Kountry app. Owatonna hosts Mankato East Saturday night.

Northfield's Emma Carlson scored 15. Rachel Kelly and Lizzie Berkvam added 10 apiece. The Raiders host Red Wing Friday night in a Section 1AAA title game rematch from last season.
