The Owatonna wrestlers wrapped up the outright Big Nine title Thursday night with a 40-19 victory over Faribault at the OHS gym.

It is the Huskies' third title over the past five seasons and the 23rd overall for the school. It could be argued they secured the title with their early January win over Albert Lea. Mathematically they captured the crown with their triangular sweep in Mankato two weeks ago. But Thursday's senior-night setting allowed Owatonna to finish off a perfect 10-0 run through their conference opponents by an average score of 48-21.

Owatonna got wins on Thursday from Kaden Nelson, Joey Wencl, Carlos Beascochea, Peyton Robb, Parker Westphal, Cade King, Nick Staska, Brandon Moen and Goy Tut. The Huskies should be the top seed for Section 1AAA, which begins Thursday, February 16. OHS lost to Faribault in the semifinals in 2016. Farmington won the title last year.

OHS boys hockey blanked Faribault 6-0 on Thursday. Nick Smith had a hat trick. Braeden Meier, Tyler Wencl and Luke Kubicek added goals. Owatonna holds its senior day Saturday at 3PM when the Huskies host Rochester Century. The game has big playoff implications for home ice in the postseason. Century beat Owatonna earlier this season.
