Owatonna native Scott Seykora and Northfield graduate Adam Woitalla will act as co-head coaches for Owatonna High School's wrestling team for the 2016-17 season.

Seykora has coached in the Owatonna program for about 12 years and is the head boys lacrosse coach. He was a member of the 1996 and 1997 state tournament wrestling teams.

Woitalla is a Northfield High School and St. Olaf graduate and will take a social studies position in Owatonna. He was a three-time state high school tournament participant and an Academic All-American for the Oles. Woitalla has experience as a coach with his father at Northfield High School. He wrestled for Cliff Casteel for the Raiders. Casteel came from Northfield and coached Owatonna for five seasons before retiring after last season.

OHS Activities Director Ryan Swanson says the process of hiring a wrestling coach took some time to reach out to as many candidates as possible to take over a program as big as Owatonna wrestling is. He is excited about Woitalla's dedication and knowledge. Swanson says Seykora understands the Owatonna tradition and brings great experience to the position. The moves are pending school board approval.

The Huskies will bring back two state champions next season with Peyton Robb and Brandon Moen, plus a multi-time state place winner with Tanner Cole. Riley Becker, Cade King, Bryce Goodwin and Griffin Thorn also advanced to state individually in 2016. All seven should be back in the Owatonna wrestling room next season.

Swanson also reports that Brent Yule will join the wrestling staff as an assistant and will work with the OHS football program as well. Yule is a Medford High School graduate who was a member of the state tournament football team and wrestled. He played college football at Winona State.
