A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Thursday morning.

It appears now most of the snow will occur in the late afternoon and evening and overnight. Later snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are expected and even a few thunderstorms are possible. Winds will increase to gusts of near 35 mph and blizzard conditions will be possible, especially after dark.

The Winter Storm Warning extends along and south of a line from Mankato through Red Wing to west-central Wisconsin. Afternoon commutes will be affected as well as the morning commute Thursday.

The Minnesota State patrol advises no unnecessary travel throughout south central Minnesota Wednesday night. Numerous accidents and spin outs have been reported. Many roads are snow and slush covered.
