When this thing rings from an uknown number, don't answer it.

Police say there are scammers conning people with the simple question "can you hear me?"  If you get a call and hear that, hang up.  Scammers have recorded those "yes" responses to make unauthorized purchases and they use your recorded "yes" to verify.  If you challenge it, they play the audio back.

Experts say:

  • Do not answer calls from unrecognized numbers.  Let your voice mail get it.
  • Don't answer questions over the phone.
  • Don't give out personal information over the phone.
  • Use sound judgment
