After an hour and 10 minute delay because the third-place match went to five sets, the Buccaneers of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown took on the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals. The Cardinals were going for their second win in a row, but the senior-dominated Buccaneers wanted it more and won their first state volleyball title in five sets, with scores of 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25 and 15-13.

It was an emotional tournament for these two very evenly matched teams.

Our State Farm Insurance players of the match were seniors Maya Schneider, Nora Schulz, Madi Strodtman and Hannah Robb, along with Peyton Nutter and Mary Campbell.

The All-Tournament team selections in Class A from W-E-M were Kamryn Kendall, Kate Masberg and RaeAhna Harmon. From the Cardinals were Madi Strodtman, Peyton Nutter and Mary Campbell. B.A. ends with a 23-7 record and W-E-M goes 33-3.

A welcome home is planned for the Buccaneers for 6PM tonight (Saturday night) at the high school gym.
