Veterans Day is a day to honor all those who have served in the U.S. military, and the Owatonna community will be doing just that on Wednesday.

Willow Creek Intermediate School starts the day with its annual Veterans Day program, which will feature presentations by school staff, students and members of the local American Legion, VFW and VFW Auxiliary posts. The event is open to the public and parking is available.

Hy-Vee will serve breakfast to veterans from 6-11AM.

The traditional flag-raising and playing of "Taps" will be at 11AM in front of the Steele County Courthouse.

The American Legion in Owatonna offers a free lunch to local veterans from noon to 1PM. And the Elks Lodge hosts a Veterans Day dinner from 5-6PM. To make reservations, call (507) 451-1395 or (507) 363-1960.

The Owatonna VFW also hosts a free supper for veterans by reservation. A social hour begins at 4PM; supper starts at 5PM.

Applebee's restaurants nationwide, including the restaurant in Owatonna, offer veterans and active-duty military members free meals from 11AM to midnight. The menu includes seven entrees to choose from, but beverages are extra.
