Union Hill pitcher Derek Masberg allowed 3 hits in a 7-0 win over the Faribault Lakers at Bell Field tonight.  Masberg mixed his pitches well and had his slider in particular dominating the Laker batters.  The two Dakota-Rice-Scott League teams were tied for the number four spot in the standings going into the game with New Market at this point running away with the league.  Faribault is the defending D-R-S champion.

The Lakers have been hit with the injury bug this season and hope to get healthy for the playoffs so they can make another run.  Egan Bonde started the game for Faribault and put zeroes up on the scoreboard through the first three innings before the Bulldogs got a run in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth thanks to a two out double by Eric Bisek.  It was all the Bulldogs would need.

Bonde went the first seven innings allowing 9 hits, 5 runs all earned with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.  He threw 103 pitches, 73 for strikes. Jim Roberts threw the last two innings with 1 hit, 2 runs both earned and three walks.  He tossed 31 pitches, 13 for strikes.

Faribault had back to back singles to start the bottom of the fifth inning by Derek Ritter and Adam Kline but they were anchored to those bases the rest of the inning.  They never threatened after that point.  Kyle Murphy had the other Laker hit.

Union Hill added two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth inning to complete their scoring.  Derek Masberg went the distance and struck out 8 batters, had no walks and hit a batter.  He threw 106 pitches, 73 for strikes.

The Bulldogs were also led at the plate by Conrad Masberg with two hits including a double, Jeff Dietz had two hits and an RBI. and Danny Beckius collected a couple hits and an RBI.

Union Hill improved to 13-11 and Faribault dropped to 11-10.
