At least 28 students have fallen ill at the University of Minnesota to what the Minnesota Department of Health is calling a strain of a norovirus. Fifteen of the students live in Frontier Hall. Frontier is one of four halls located on adjacent blocks known collectively as the "Superblock" on the U's east bank. Frontier students eat their meals at neighboring Pioneer and Centennial halls.

According to a report in the Star Tribune, Frontier Hall and the dining halls are being disinfected as a precaution. There are more than 700 residents in Frontier Hall. State investigators are talking with the students to find out what and where they have been eating.

Symptoms include, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Among the precautionary measures students were urged to take:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
  • Do not share food, drinks or eating utensils.
  • Do not have contact with someone who is sick.
