Owatonna's girls basketball team lost their regular season finale to Mankato East on Thursday. Blooming Prairie's girls won their playoff opener in overtime against Southland.
Mankato East scored 42 second-half points to rally past the Owatonna girls 69-61 on the Huskies' senior night. Section 1AAAA pairings will be announced Saturday. Playoffs begin Wednesday, March 2.
The Blooming Prairie girls basketball outlasted Southland 47-44 in overtime in the quarterfinals of Section 1A West Subsection play. The Awesome Blossoms square off with No 2 seed and top-five ranked Lyle-Pacelli on Monday at 7:30PM at the Mayo Civic Auditorium. Top-ranked Goodhue and Grand Meadow meet in the other semifinal.
Triton girls basketball lost to No. 1-rated Plainview-Elgin-Millville 81-17 in the first round of the Section 1AA tournament.
For the first time since 2009, a non-Lakeville school will represent Section 1AA at the boys state high school hockey tournament. Farmington whipped Lakeville North 6-2 for the crown. It was their third victory this season over the Panthers.
The top seeds at the state wrestling tournament all hoisted the championship hardware. Kenyon-Wanamingo beat Frazee 26-24 in Class A. Kasson-Mantorville beat Foley 37-21 in Class AA. Apple Valley won their 11th straight title with a 31-26 victory over St. Michael-Albertville.
