In the summer of 2015 the Owatonna VFW and Aces baseball teams advanced to state. Each is hoping for a repeat appearance this summer.

Owatonna's VFW Post 3723 squad has already started the playoffs at 3-0. After rain pushed back the postseason opener by a day Owatonna whipped Rochester Mayo and Red Wing on Sunday. On Monday, Owatonna topped Mayo again to reach the district final four. Action begins Saturday, July 31, at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park.

Owatonna is the top seed after compiling the top league record during the regular season. They play fourth seed Winona at 10AM followed by Austin versus Rochester Lourdes at 12:30PM. The winners and losers also square off on Saturday. Games will continue Sunday and possibly Monday.

The Owatonna Aces amateur team scored a walk-off 5-4 win over the Rochester Roadrunners on Tuesday, with Tyler Smith delivering the winning hit. Trey Fails got the pitching win. The Aces wrap up their regular season Wednesday night at 7:30PM, according to their Twitter account @Aces_Baseball. They play Waseca at Fuller Field.

In American Legion baseball, the Rochester Patriots won the district title, beating defending champion Austin in the final early this week. The state tournament starts this weekend.
