The Owatonna Noon Rotary Club held a Document Shredding Day on Saturday, May 21, along with Retrofit Electronics Collection Day. The shredding day was to raise money for the STRIVE programs.

Earl Anderson, a member of the Owatonna Noon Rotary Club, said more than 10,000 pounds of paper was brought in to be shredded. Also this was a donation event. Anderson said $1,625 was raised, an increase of 47 percent over last year.

The money raised will go to the STRIVE Wellness Program, which began in Owatonna in 2004. STRIVE stands for Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education. The program is a mentoring program where a Rotary member is matched with a student in their senior year in high school to give them encouragement during the school year.

They attend sessions to hear a variety of topics relating to the importance of an education from members of the community.

The Rotary Club of Owatonna also hold the STRIVE for Wellness Run on the Saturday of the Steele County Free Fair. This year it will be on August 20.
