Steele County, along with the cities of Ellendale, Medford and Owatonna are teaming up in a storm debris removal. The cities and county have a flood-damage debris removal schedule beginning Wednesday, September 28.

Residents are to place flood-damaged debris on the boulevard in piles. The debris should be placed on the boulevard from the curb to the sidewalk of 10 feet form the curb. Rural residents are asked not to place debris in the ditch but rather at the edge before the ditch. Keep debris out of the right-of-way for emergency vehicles and to prevent plugging of storm-water drains. Those needing assistance may call (507) 444-2454.

The following items can be delivered to the landfill as a mixed load:

  • Carpet and padding
  • Rugs
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Insulation
  • Sheetrock
  • Paneling
  • Plaster

Flood-contaminated demolition waste such as Sheetrock and paneling is considered mixed solid waste and therefore can't be hauled to the demolition area of the landfill.
