The Steele County Fair officially began with the flag raising at 5PM. In my mind it began at 2PM with the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame Program. This was a program that began 12 years ago. It is a great way to celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the livestock industry in Steele County. The Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame Program is sponsored by the Steele County Fair and the Central Valley Co-op.

The criteria for the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame include impact and influence upon the livestock industry county, state and national; leadership in the livestock industry county, state and national; length of service; and respected ethics and of high character. The 2015 class includes Donald Olson, who passed away in 1996, along with Barb Kasper and Howard Schoenfeld. If you are at the Steele County Fair this week in Owatonna, be sure to stop by the livestock show arena. Pictures of all the members of the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame along with their accomplishments are on display.
