It's a grand old flag. And area youth are invited to the History Center in Owatonna on Thursday, May 7, to learn about the American flag.

The Steele County Historical Society is hosting its monthly free program for local youth. This month they will learn about the U.S. flag. In a press release from the historical society, director Laura Resler says, "We're looking forward to this month's presentation and teaching about Memorial Day and flag etiquette." Local Boy Scouts will show participants how to treat the flag. Each child also will receive a flag.

Resler adds, "It is important for all of us to know how to treat our flag properly and with respect and to also understand the importance of honoring our fallen soldiers that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom."

The History Detectives are preschool age and meet at 9AM at the History Center on Austin Road in Owatonna. Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade are Time Travelers and meet at 6:30PM at the History Center.
