Kids will learn about what people wore long ago to battle a Minnesota winter on November 5. And now is the time to make your reservation for the November 12 annual meeting.

The Steele County Historical Society hosts free children's programming on the first Thursday of each month. On November 5, kids will learn about the clothing that people used long ago to stay warm during winter. The History Detectives (preschool) meet at 9:30AM. The Time Travelers (kindergarten through sixth grade) meet at 6PM. Each group will gather in the Lange Theater in the Steele County History Center.

The historical society announces their annual meeting, "Puttin' on the Glitz," on Thursday, November 12. The event will start with a red carpet stroll at 6PM with hors d'oeuvres created by award-winning chef Tim Cockram. A silent auction will feature a variety of art and wine. At 7PM the annual business meeting will be held, including a presentation from the new executive director. The annual awards ceremony will follow. Awards include Volunteer of the Year, Tour Guide of the Year and Business & Community Partner of the Year. Singer Ryan Gillespie of Owatonna will perform at 8PM. Reservations should be made by Friday, November 6. Call the history center at (507) 451-1420. The cost is $20.

"This has been an exciting and highly productive year at the Steele County Historical Society. We are looking forward to an evening of great food, celebration, entertainment and fellowship," Executive Director Kim Purscell said in press release.
