The Steele County Historical Society will host its free children's program on Sept. 3. An outdoor Americana music concert is Sept. 4.

With school just around the corner, school-age and younger children should get a thrill by experiencing what life was like in a one-room school. The free children's programming for September will be held in the schoolhouse building at the Village of Yesteryear. The History Detectives is the preschool program and will meet at 9AM at the schoolhouse Thursday, Sept. 3. The Time Travelers group is for those in K-6 and will meet at 6:30PM at the schoolhouse. Free children's programming is offered on the first Thursday of each month.

The historical society hosts a night of Americana music Friday, Sept. 4. Former Gear Daddies band member Martin Zellar, Brandon Sampson and John Wheeler are scheduled to perform. Tickets are $15 for historical society members and $20 for nonmembers. This will be an outdoor show. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Doors open at 6:30PM. Music begins at 7:30PM. You can buy tickets online. This showcase will be at the Steele County History Center at 1700 Austin Road in Owatonna.
