The Steele County Blades junior hockey club picked up a pair of wins at the Detroit Fighting Irish over the weekend. Steele County is 3-0-1 to start the season.

The Blades got on the board late in the first period on a goal by Owatonna High School graduate Soren Colstrup on Friday night on their way to a 6-0 victory in Detroit. Colstrup added a pair of assists. Kyle Wadden scored twice in the second period. Tim Grounds made 22 saves for the shutout win.

Steele County whistled 43 shots on goal and went 4-for-8 on the power play. They also killed off all four short-handed situations.

The Blades won Saturday's rematch 3-2. The Irish scored early in the first but Christian Leeb squared the game late in the period. Wadden gave the Blades a one-goal lead in the second and Leeb scored again early in the third for a 3-1 advantage. Detroit answered that goal but failed to get the equalizer. Steele County out-shot the Irish 40-25 and Grounds earned the win in goal.

After an overtime loss and come from behind win in their opening weekend, the Blades are 3-0-1 to start the season. The next league game for Steele County is Friday, October 14, at Blaine. Saturday, October 15, is the team's home opener at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna, hosting the Dells Ducks at 7:30PM. The teams will also play Sunday, October 16, at 3PM in Owatonna.
