The annual Pheasants for Hospitalized Veterans benefit auction is Saturday, October 15, at the Owatonna VFW. The kitchen will open and the silent auction will run from 5-7PM. The live auction begins at 7PM. Jeff Kath and Larry Born will once again serve as volunteer auctioneers. Items include theme baskets of fresh food and hair care along with lamps and other merchandise donated by area merchants. Money raised will go to purchase pheasant dinners for hospitalized veterans in Minnesota.

Pheasants for Hospitalized Vets began in 1941. Since 1963, Steele County has donated more to this cause than anyone else. In 2015, just under 1,900 meals were served in 15 veteran establishments in Minnesota.

About $16,000 is raised most years, with a high one year of just about $20,000.

Meals are served from mid-October into December in the state at the different veterans homes.

The auction is open to the public. You must be 21 or older to attend.
