Kim Schaufenbuel, the executive director of this year's United Way campaign, reports that just over $480,000 of the $700,000 campaign has been raised so far this year with just a few weeks remaining. Schaufenbuel related the importance of the independent supporters such as retirees, businesses with just a few employees and independent workers. This group usually amounts to about 15 percent of the money raised.

Last year's campaign, with corporate campaign leader NAPA, raised $692,000. This year's corporate campaign leader is Gopher Sport. This year's campaign will support 24 agencies.

You can make a gift online by going to the Steele County United Way website. You may also call (507) 455-1180 to find out more. You may also drop off contributions at their office, 110 N. Cedar in downtown Owatonna. This year's campaign ends on December 31.

Schaufenbuel and board member Ryan Gillespie were guests on AM 1390's Talk of the Town.
