A longtime goal of the Steele County Humane Society has been reached with the announcement that they are now in possession of land for a building. The announcement made this week is that they own about two acres at 1855 State Ave. right across the driveway from the Owatonna Dog Park.

The next step is to contact their general contractor, who will put them in touch with an architect to develop plans for the building. Plans for the building include an office, intake center, overflow and quarantine station. The society plans to continue their foster parent plan for animals because they consider human contact important for the animals.

It's still a ways away from fruition, as the plans include having about five years operating expenses in the bank before building.

The Steele County Humane Society will host their Merry Market on Saturday, December 17, at the Owatonna Eagles from 9AM to noon. Santa will be there for pictures. The Golden Tones are scheduled to perform at 11AM.

They will also be hosting a Pet Adoption Day on the 17th at SMART Transit in the industrial park from 1-3PM.
