The Minnesota Historical Society has announced that 36 recipients will receive 37 Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Small grants. In all $280,924 has been awarded to recipients in 20 Minnesota counties.

The city of Waseca has been granted $5,989 to hire a qualified historian to complete the nomination to the National Register of Historic Places for their historic Waseca Downtown District.

The Steele County Historical Society has been granted $9,720 to hire a qualified consultant to research the history of the American Legion in preparation for a future centennial exhibit.

Grants are available for history and historic reservation projects in two tiers. Small grants of $10,000 or less are awarded quarterly. the next small grant application deadlines are October 13, 2017 and January 12,2018.

These grants are made possible by the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008.
