Our co-worker Tamara Gruhot noticed a cool sign in the parking lot of Owatonna's Hy-Vee. It welcomes veterans, active duty, police officers and firefighters to park a little closer to the front doors. The signs are near the handicapped spots. Maybe you have noticed them.

I talked to Mike, Hy-Vee's manager, to find out a little more.

He said the signs have been there for a couple of months and the plan is to keep them indefinitely.

Mike said that he is not sure how many Hy-Vees have that specific parking spot. There happens to be four of the spots in Owatonna. He said the idea started near the Quad Cities Hy-Vee store. Mike received a notification of that store putting up the signs for veterans and the like to park closer and decided it was a good idea.

Mike said the parking spots are welcome and that he has been thanked for the parking spot, in turn veterans are thanked.

Thank you to all men and women who serve and served our country. It cannot be said enough.
