The only Section One representative to win in the first games of the MSHSL State Baseball Tournaments was Caledonia.  The #5 seed Warriors downed #4 and defending state champion Minnehaha Academy 1-0 at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.  In Class A Rushford-Peterson was defeated by #3 seed South Ridge 5-1.  In Class AAA Red Wing lost to #2 seed Rocori 3-2 in 8 innings at Siebert Field and in Class AAAA Lakeville North outhit St. Michael-Albertville 8-3 but was outscored 3-2 at CHS Field in St. Paul.

Rushford-Peterson will play 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Mini-Met in Jordan against Hickley-Finlayson who lost to #2 seed Sleepy Eye 6-0.  Caledonia faces #1 seed Marshall School of Duluth at Noon Friday in St. Cloud.  Marshall School beat St. Cloud Cathedral 6-2.  Red Wing plays South St. Paul at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Northwestern in Consolation action. The South St. Paul Packers were edged by #3 seed New Ulm 5-4 in a 9 inning affair.  The Eagles won in walk-off fashion on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th by Jason Domeier.

In other MSHSL State Tournament baseball results in the winner's bracket:

Class A  

Defending Champion Parkers Prairie was the #5 seed and defeated #4 Wabasso 8-6.  Top seed Heritage Christian Academy edged Sacred Heart 4-3.  Noon at Chaska Athletic Park the two winners play.

#2 seed Sleepy Eye blanked Hinclkley-Finlayson 6-0 and #3 South Ridge beat Rushford-Peterson 5-1.  Sleepy Eye and South Ridge hook up at 2:30 p.m. in Chaska.

Class AA

Top seed Marshall School, Duluth got by St. Cloud Cathedral in St. Cloud 6-2 and will play Caledonia at Noon on Dick Putz Field.  In the other semifinal #2 seed Maple Lake rolled by Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 9-0 and will play the Jordan Hubmen after Jordan upset #3 seed Paynesville Area 6-2.

Class AAA

#1 seed Mahtomedi Zephyrs edged Grand Rapids Thunderhawks 3-2 and plays #4 seed Alexandria Area at Noon on the University of Minnesota Campus.  The Cardinals bested #5 seed Willmar 2-1.  #2 seed Rocori and #3 New Ulm are both coming off extra inning wins and play at 2:30 p.m.

Class AAAA

Top seed Minnetonka came from behind to score a walk-off win over Eastview and plays #4 seed St. Michael-Albertville at Noon at CHS Field in St. Paul.  The other semifinal features #2 seed Stillwater Area against #3 Blaine at 2:30 p.m.  The Ponies galloped into the semis with a 3-2 win over Mounds View and the Bengals got by Wayzata 6-1.

All Section Two teams advanced following their openers.   Sleepy Eye, Jordan, New Ulm and Minnetonka.
