Citing families commitments, John Schultz has resigned as the NRHEG girls basketball coach.

"My priorities are my family."

-John Schultz

Schultz turned in his resignation this week and informed his players of his decision on Tuesday. He knew there was speculation of such a move. His daughter Jade was a senior on the state championship Panthers team and will now be a Golden Gopher. His son Jack plays basketball and John was rarely able to see him play. Plus he coaches his youngest daughter's youth team. Schultz will continue to be an assistant coach on the NRHEG football team. He was just recognized as a Butch Nash Award winner at the Minnesota Football Coaches Association banquet.

The Panthers girls just won their second straight state AA championship with an undefeated season. The Panthers will return a pair of All Tournament selections with Maddie and Marnie Wagner. Schultz expects the team to have another great season next winter. Schultz says the fans are "best in the state" and is happy that he can now "be one."

Schultz completed his second stint and 11th overall season as Panthers coach with a 225-58 record.
