The Rice County Emergency Management Department is putting out a request for volunteers to assist with tornado damage clean-up.  The turnouts for two previous clean-up efforts were not as large as organizers had hoped and that's why more efforts are needed.  Organizers are hoping for a better turnout this Saturday with a positive forecast.  At least at this point of the week.

The organized effort will be from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20th at the Rice County Fairgrounds.  Registration begins 7:30 a.m. with 2 and 4 hour shifts available.  Register at the Dean Curtis 4-H Building (1814 2nd Ave NW, Faribault)  Volunteers will be transported from the fairgrounds to the location in need of assistance.

Authorities are requesting people pre-register at 1-833-643-7423 and leave their name, phone number and what time slot or slots they are available to volunteer.

Wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.  Please bring your own gloves and rakes if possible.

Lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided.

If you need assistance the Rice County Storm Hotline is still open at 1-833-643-7423, the local number is 507-333-3877.  Please call with your storm related needs!  Debris clean-up, tree cutting, general debris pick-up.  These people will get volunteers to assist you.

If you need more information the Rice County Emergency Management Director is Jennifer Hauer-Schmitz and the phone number is 507-332-6119.
