Area towns are remembering our fallen veterans.

In Owatonna, at 9:30AM Monday, May 30, the American Legion and VFW parade begins on School Street, going south on Elm Avenue to the Four Seasons Center on the Steele County Fairgrounds by 10:30AM for the Memorial Day program.

If the parade is canceled because of rain, the program will be at 10:30AM at the Four Seasons Center. The program can be heard on AM1390 KRFO.

In Ellendale and Geneva, VFW Post 8941 and American Legion Post 296 Memorial Day service will begin by meeting at the Community Center on Second Avenue in Ellendale at 7:45AM. All servicemen and women are invited to join. Weather permitting, the day will begin at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Litomysl at 8:15AM, then to:

  • St. Aiden's Cemetery in Bath at 9:15AM
  • Geneva Community Cemetery in Geneva at 10:15AM. If there is rain, the service will be in Community Lutheran Church, 106 Third St. S.E.
  • First Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Ellendale at 11:15AM.

The NRHEG band will provide music. The Ellendale Methodist Church will sing the national anthem.

At 11AM, the Blooming Prairie American Legion, VFW and their Auxiliaries will parade to the Blooming Prairie Cemetery to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers. Patriotic music will be provided by the high school band. Pastor James Fennell from the Blooming Prairie Baptist Church will give the memorial service.

There will be a potluck at noon at the Servicemen's Club that is open to the public.

At 12:30PM, the VFW will present and recognize Marisa Larson with both the Voice of Democracy and VFW Patriotic Art.

At 1PM, The Ladies Auxiliaries will present area veterans with Quilts of Valor.

If there is rain, the program will be in the Servicemen's Club Liberty Room.
