A pair of Owatonna pitchers combined on a two-hitter in a 5-1 win over Rochester JM Saturday in Section 1AAA baseball. Medford dropped a pair of games and was knocked from 1A.

In a repeat of the playoff opening win over Winona on Thursday, Owatonna hurlers Isaac Rocha and Clay Leidall combined to shut down second seeded Rochester John Marshall 5-1 on Saturday at John Adams Middle School in Rochester. The win sets up Owatonna to play Hastings at 1:30PM Monday in Rochester.

Rocha threw four innings of two-hit ball. Leidall went the final three and did not give up a hit. Sam Hylle sparked the offense with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double. Defensively Blake Westphal made a great catch in center field.

No. 11 seed Hastings won just four games during the regular season, but has scored victories over Rochester Mayo and Red Wing in the playoffs.

Monday's schedule starts with Red Wing versus John Marshall in an elimination game at 11AM. The Huskies will play the Raiders about 1:30PM. The winner of the first game will play the loser of the second game at 4PM on Monday. The Owatonna game(s) can be heard on Kat Kountry 105FM, at katkountry105.com or with the Radiopup app.

On the other side of the 1AAA tournament, top seed Northfield and Rochester Century play in the winner's bracket Monday. Austin and Farmington battle to stay alive in the loser's bracket. The remaining teams after Monday will go to Red Wing on Saturday, May 30.

Medford Tigers eliminated

Medford baseball opened the playoffs with a win Thursday. But the extra-inning victory over Southland taxed the Tigers' pitching staff. Medford lost a pair of games on Saturday in Austin and was knocked out of the Section 1A tournament. Hayfield topped the Tigers 11-1 and Lyle / Pacelli edged Medford 6-5 afterward.
