The season opened with a win for the Owatonna Post 77 Legion baseball team 6-4 over Faribault. The Owatonna VFW team came out on top 4-2.

Owatonna's legion team scored a 6-4 win over Post 43 of Faribault despite getting out-hit 9-6. Post 77 overcame three extra base hits, including a two-run home run belted by the visitors. Faribault committed three errors in the game. One allowed a pair of runs to score in Owatonna's three-run fifth inning.

Center fielder Jacob Mundale went 3-for-3 plus a walk with one run scored. He also made several nice defensive plays. Mundale made a long running catch in deep center to end the first inning. He had a put out in each of the first four innings. The Post 77 starting lineup only had two players in it that also started for OHS in the section title game Tuesday night. They were Sam Hylle, who had an RBI, and Noah Scheid, who reached base twice. Alec Holcomb came on in relief of Alex Emanuelson in the fifth inning.

The VFW opened the night at Fuller Field at Dartts Park with a 4-2 victory over Faribault. Owatonna's Brock Hanson pitched the complete game and struck out 10 batters. Brett Solie had two hits, including a double.
