The first day of Owatonna's crazy days was marked by fall-like weather and water in the dunk tank that may have rivaled the chilled water recently found on Mars. The Owatonna High School Carolers sang in Central Park. A monster truck was on display downtown in advance of Saturday's event at the Steele County Fairgrounds.

Friday's highlights include kids' day activities. A children's parade with a pirate theme will be held at 10 am. A crazy hair contest follows at 11 am. A petting zoo and the RAD zoo will also be featured. Owatonna Parks and Recreation is hosting events including pickleball demonstrations.

Businesses open at 8 am Friday and Saturday.

Thursday's dunk tank participants included Owatonna schools superintendent Jeff Elstad and several coaches and teachers. Friday's lineup includes Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism President Brad Meier and more coaches and teachers. I will take a seat in the tank at 2 pm.

The monster truck show begins at the fairgrounds Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 pm. Gates open at 5 pm. Advance tickets are available at Napa Auto Parts at 122 West Pearl St in Owatonna. Adult tickets are $15. Children seats are $12. Tickets will also be sold at the gate at a higher price. Tickets are cash only.

The event features trucks Red Neck Road Trip, Extreme Diesel and Just Get'r Done. Public meet and greet parties begin at 5 pm.
