Hearts were heavy at the Owatonna gym Tuesday night. Just two days prior a player's father passed away at age 43. The team played their match in honor of Brian Schultz.

Sydney Schultz is a sophomore on the team. She joined her team on the bench but did not play. The team wore special purple shirts that read "This one's for you" on the front and "In loving memory of Bri Bri" on the back. Most of the fans also wore purple, as did Rochester Mayo players and coaches. Brian is also survived by his wife, Kelly, and another daughter, Maya. Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Michaelson Funeral Home from 4-7PM. A celebration of Brian's life will be Thursday, Sept. 24, beginning at 11AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Owatonna.

In the match, the Huskies jumped out to a 25-19 win in the opening set as Mayo was plagued by hitting errors. The Spartans turned the tables from there. Mayo won the next three 25-16, 25-16 and 25-14 for a 3-1 win. Mayo's serving caused the Huskies trouble, leading to numerous Owatonna hitting errors. OHS also struggled serving with 13 errors.

Lexi Langeland led Owatonna with 14 kills. Carli Langeland added nine. Anna Winter was Mayo's top player with 15 kills. Kate Holtan added 10. The loss was Owatonna's first in Big Nine Conference play. Northfield now leads the league at 4-1. Owatonna, Mayo, Century and Winona are all 3-1. The Huskies play at Mankato West on Thursday. Their match on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Rochester JM will be broadcast on Kat Kountry 105FM.
