Owatonna VFW baseball plays for a trip to the state tournament Monday night in Northfield. The teams have split games so far in the weekend district tournament.

Owatonna Post 3723 is the third seed and started with a win over Rochester before knocking off the top seed and host Northfield club 2-1 Saturday. Northfield came back through the loser's bracket Sunday and beat Owatonna 4-1 to force a second district championship game. The teams will square off Monday, July 27, in Northfield at 5PM. The winner advances to the VFW state tournament.

Coincidentally, Owatonna's VFW-9 team also played Northfield on Sunday, losing 8-7 at the U15 state tournament. The rivalry between the two communities was also on display during the high school playoffs in the spring. The Raiders beat the Huskies to capture the section championship.

The Owatonna Aces lost their regular season finale Sunday at Hayfield, after rallying in the ninth inning Friday night to beat the Rochester Road Runners. The amateur baseball playoffs begin soon.

Owatonna's American Legion club lost to the Rochester Redhawks on Friday and was eliminated from the sub-state tournament. On Sunday, Austin beat the Rochester Patriots 4-1 for their first title since 1989.

Baseball season continues Monday for the Owatonna VFW with the district finals in Northfield at 5PM.
