Owatonna Superintendent of Schools Peter Grant was a guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town. Increased security measures are still being taken since the incident involving a school threat earlier this month.

There are numerous activities before high school graduation on June 12. They include the POPS concert May 29 at 7PM at the high school. The ALC graduation will be June 7 and the last day of school will be June 8.

Also numerous schools will be holding track and field days along with get-togethers before the end of the school year.

Bids for the first phase of the renovation projects will be opened on May 19. Grant echoed the words of Tom Sager in that finding building contractors is a little harder than anticipated with the economy apparently turning around. Part of the renovation will include changes in school security. Getting workers is just a part of the concern because the availability of glass is harder than it was a while back. In fact, cabinetry needs to be ordered eight weeks out. Good signs for the economy at least.

Grant said the 18-month project needs to be flexible because just one or two backlogs in getting supplies could push things back a bit.
