Seven local celebrity readers will be featured in the Kiwanis Club of Owatonna’s “Read Around the World” event 10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Owatonna Public Library. The event is designed for preschool to third-graders and will feature a free book giveaway and milk and cookies.

Readers this year include Sue Brown, local children’s book author; Anna Hagen, OHS Key Club vice-president; Tim Penny, Southern Minnesota Initiative Fund CEO; Mark Sebring, Owatonna School board president; Keith Hiller; police chief; Shelley Whitehead, Owatonna Today show host; and Darla Lager, Owatonna Public Library children’s librarian.

This annual Kiwanis event encourages children to value and explore books with the encouragement of their parents, teachers and community leaders. The Kiwanis Club of Owatonna, a Kiwanis International affiliate, meets at noon Wednesdays.
