International Women's Day will be observed in Owatonna on Wednesday, March 8. A rally is planned for Central Park between 5-6PM. The rally will feature music and speakers and the public is invited.

Francy Hall of Owatonna will be the rally emcee. Local Girl Scouts will lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest speakers include former Sen. Vicki Jensen and the Rev. Coqui Conkey of Owatonna. Attendees are invited to make a sign or poster to carry during the rally.

International Women's Day is recognized as a national holiday in close to 30 countries around the world. It's said that the first observance of a National Women's Day took place back in 1908. In 1911 the first observation under the title of International Women's Day first took place. The date of March 8 was settled on in 1913. The United Nations first observed the day in 1975.
