Owatonna boys hockey pulled away from Faribault 7-0 for their third straight shutout. The OHS girls lost 4-2 at John Marshall when the Rockets rallied for a three-goal third period.

The Owatonna boys hockey team blanked Faribault 7-0 Tuesday night at Four Seasons Centre. Tyler Wencl had a four-point night with two goals and two assists. Noah Scheid had a goal with two helpers. Mitchell Wiese, John Swenson and Kodey Kiel each had a goal and an assist. Nate Smith added the other goal. The Huskies scored three in the first, one in the second and three more in the third period.

Ryan Johnson stopped 15 shots for this fourth shutout in five varsity starts. Owatonna (9-7-1 overall, 7-3 in the Big Nine) has outscored their last three opponents by a combined 27-0. The schedule turns a little tougher Thursday when they host Mankato West at 7PM. The Scarlets rallied from behind against the Huskies in Duluth to earn a tie during a holiday tournament. On Saturday, Owatonna hosts Rochester JM at 3PM. The Rockets whipped the Huskies 7-1 in early December.

The Owatonna girls hockey squad lost 4-2 at Big Nine-leading John Marshall on Tuesday. Owatonna struck first two minutes into the game when a Jamie Davison shot from the left point found the back of the net. JM evened the game late in the first. The Huskies retook the lead late in the second. As Betty VonRuden exited the penalty box, Kiley Friedrichs found her with a long pass and VonRuden cruised in and scored with a back-checker draped all over her for a 2-1 lead.

The Rockets scored three goals in a two-minute span early in the third period for the 4-2 win, their eighth straight win over OHS. The Huskies outshot JM 30-22. Rockets goalie Sophia Hyke made several dazzling point-blank saves late in the second and third periods to preserve the win. Owatonna (15-7, 10-4) plays at Mankato West on Thursday at 5:30PM.
