Have some Halloween fun, while helping out the Steele County Food Shelf. That's the approach for the Verhota's of Owatonna, who held their fourth annual haunted yard on Halloween.

Vicki Smith Verhota reported on the KRFO facebook page that they exceeded their goals for the year. She stated, "My goal each and every year is to do better that the year before, and this year was amazing." They welcomed 190 trick-or-treaters, who donated over $200 and nearly 200 pounds of food.

"Thank you again to all that helped, visited and donated to the Haunted Yard and Food Shelf drive. We are already looking forward to and making plans for next year!."

The haunted yard featured a horse-drawn hearse, a cemetery and Dracula's castle in the garage. Joe Verhota told KRFO's Loren Hart that he first got the idea from his dad many years ago when they decorated for the holiday. He stressed it is not a scary display and is family-friendly. Be sure to stop by 338 13th St SE in Owatonna in 2018 when they host their fifth annual event.
