Owatonna made it to the Section 1AA girls tennis finals, again. And lost to Rochester Mayo, again. This marks the fourth straight year that the Huskies season ended with a loss to the Spartans in the finals, and for the 21st time in the last 22 years that Mayo will represent the section at the state tournament.

Coach Curt Matejcek said, via text, "We had a great day and a great season. Nice win over Northfield to get us into the finals for fourth straight year. Battled hard against a great opponent, Mayo, who played strong today. Finished 20-2. Both losses vs Mayo."

Mayo topped Owatonna 7-0 Tuesday in the finals at the Rochester Athletic Club. Owatonna's only other loss this season was a 5-2 setback versus Mayo during the Big Nine season. OHS (20-2) beat Northfield 6-1 in Tuesday's semifinals. Mayo beat Century to reach the finals. Section individuals begin Thursday. The state tennis tournament is October 24-27.

Seniors on the Huskies squad include Alissa Weide, Hannah Munch, Lauren Betti, Macy Voss and Rilee Wickman. Matejcek is assisted by Beth Fink and Matt Olson. Matejcek was named the Big Nine girls tennis coach of the year. He was very pleased with how well the team played and how many victories the girls earned.
