Owatonna and Mankato West tied for second in the Big Nine girls soccer standings in 2015. Each team returns a number of players with varsity experience. OHS coach Matt Roddy believes both clubs will contend this fall.

The Huskies hosted the Scarlets at the Lincoln Complex on Thursday. After a scoreless first half that didn't feature many scoring chances, each team had numerous opportunities in the second half. West cashed in with 11:29 remaining and added another less than six minutes later for a 2-0 victory.

On the first night of the football regular season, Kasson-Mantorville scored the final 12 points of the game for a 27-16 win over No. 2AA Triton at the Snake Pit in Dodge Center. The Komets are a AAAA team. Zumbrota-Mazeppa scored a late touchdown to beat Cannon Falls 24-20.

In volleyball, Blooming Prairie rallied after losing the first two sets to NRHEG for a 3-2 win with the fifth set going to overtime 19-17.
