The Huskies used several big plays to earn a 34-23 win over Northfield on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Owatonna High School football field.

Coach Jeff Williams told KRFO radio during Saturday's coaches show broadcast that he wasn't comfortable until the final couple of minutes despite a double-digit lead. He noted the Raiders had scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter in their come-from-behind win over Mankato East in the previous week.

As it is, Northfield scored twice in the third quarter to shave a 27-3 Owatonna lead at halftime down to 27-16. One of Owatonna's big plays came early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Alex Emanuelson threw a pass to Dalton Kubista in the end zone on a fourth-down play. Kubista had to wrestle the ball away from a defender for the touchdown.

Other big plays for Owatonna included a 53-yard touchdown run from Sam Hylle, a 95-yard kickoff return by Bryce Goodwin, and a deflected pass by Blake Westphal that was intercepted by Hylle to set up a short touchdown drive.
