I realize discussing the Owatonna City Archery Deer Hunt now seems a little early. However, the guide from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has an error in it, stating that the deadline is this month. The correct registration deadline is September 15. The hunt itself will take place November 1 through December 20.

Antlerless deer may be harvested in Hamman Park, Kaplan's Woods, Kaplan's Woods Parkway, in the North Straight River Trail Area and also in the Leo Rudolph Nature Reserve, Manthey Park, Maple Creek Parkway and Kriesel Park. The bag limit is five deer. All hunters must be at least 18. No crossbows will be allowed and all DNR hunting regulations will apply to this special hunt.

Registration forms are at the Parks and Recreation Office and the applicants will receive a number. Fifty random numbers will be drawn to test. Applicants must pass the proficiency test using the same equipment with which they will be hunting. Of those successful applicants, 28 will be randomly drawn and awarded permits.
