The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce recently was alerted to fraudulent activity on their gift certificate account. Chamber President Brad Meier reports in their weekly e-newsletter that, "an out-of-state source was attempting to write checks on the Owatonna Chamber Dollars account. We caught the activity and no money was lost."

He indicates that businesses which receive Chamber Dollars dated prior to January 1, 2016 should bring those to the chamber office for a reissued check. He stresses to businesses, "Please accept the check, but bring it to the chamber for a reissued check before making a deposit." Meier says the previous account in closed and the chamber and the bank are working together to catch any future problems as well.

In other notes, the Owatonna chamber invites its members to Business Day at the Capitol on April 18. Business leaders from around the state will address attendees, who will also have the opportunity to meet with elected officials. Sign up for the day.

The newsletter also reported that the Owatonna City Council approved plans that advance a downtown apartment complex and improvements to the River Springs Water Park and for a downtown Torey's project.
